a great network printer at a bargain price
I began shopping for network printers when I switched to Windows 7, and couldn’t find a driver for my trusty HP Laserjet 2200. I bought one of these in early April 2010, and another a few days later. The printer works perfectly. It is compact, quiet, and produces excellent quality. Setup was routine, but one detail merits particular attention. As the manufacturer recommends, it is much easier and more reliable to set the printer up first with it physically connected to the router, and then disconnect it. I strongly recommend installing it that way. If you have to repeat any of the setup steps, you will need to reset the printer (as in the instructions), and also remove the printer from the list of installed printers. If you don’t do this, the router will be unable to locate the printer because it will still be looking for the old one. This is a perfect network printer for a home or small office.

So far this system is working like a charm. Print quality is great, speed is up to par, and pretty quiet as far as printers go. Haven’t set up the wireless yet, but hopefully it will be easy than previous reviews have reported.

The printer is awesome, but after printing just 50 pages the toner light came on. I shook the toner to no avail, but after covering the sensor on the right side of the toner cartridge with electrical tape it is printing perfect again. That said, easy setup, reliable, fast, efficient, lowest cost over time for ink with sensor covered.

Great Value for the Price.
I relied on the other reviews from Amazon customers to pick this printer. I am almost completely satisfied with the product. Nice crisp B & W print. Speed is just fine for my needs. Set up was easy. The only thing I have to figure out is how to set it up for wireless printing. That is a bit confusing from the directions and all. It is not “plug and play per se.” I am sure I will get it going that way, but for now the USB cable is working well.

Sunpak and Vivitar flashes?
I’m a new photographer who just got a Pentax K110D. Of course I’m going through the beginning “tests & trials” using floodlights and house lamps to photograph subjects indoor to save money. Most pictures are dark so I’ve learned my lesson, lol. I was advised to purchase a Sunpak 433d, or Vivitar 285 or 283 for great power and less cost. I’m looking at ebay and wonder if I’m really getting a good deal for purchasing these used flashes for around $50 shipping. I know I will have to get a trigger system for them, but do you think I’m making a smart move?
I do not have experience with the K110D, or the Sunpak 433d. I do have extensive experience with both the 283 & 285 however. Assuming you’ve checked for hot-shoe compatibility, I highly recommend the 285. Here’s why:
1) Very good deal — good power for the price. Not a bunch of unnecessary bells & whistles to drive up the price.
2) A great back-up. Even if your camera is NOT hot-shoe compatible, you can use the flash off-camera like a strobe — in both automatic mode & manual mode (referring to flash modes). I still have my 283 & 285 as backups for my Canon digitals.
3) A classic — which means you can usually find accessories, parts, & help on the flash in most parts of the country (& possibly world).
4) You will most likely not outgrow this flash
Many people underestimate the 285 because it’s very cheap for a flash. Truth is, I can conduct many professional jobs with this flash. I simply don’t for the sake of “professional appearances.” In the world of commercial photography, clients expect to see equipment that they believe are “professional equipment.”
As far as purchasing the flash used, here are some points to consider:
1) The 285 hits its 28mm coverage via a diffuser. Make sure that the diffuser is included in the purchase. If not, you will have to buy the diffuser to cover wider than 35mm.
2) In the automatic mode, the flash uses a removable sensor that is attached to the front of the flash. Be sure that this sensor is included with the flash. If not, you are stuck to using this like a studio strobe — meaning you calculate f-stops & distances.
3) Make sure that the flash includes the battery holder. Some people buy rechargeable packs for flash — &/or adapters for using 3rd party battery packs. If it’s missing the batter holder, you will need to purchase this to use AA batteries.
4) Make sure that the Vivitar flash cable is included. You will need this to trigger the flash any other way besides directly on the hot-shoe. Their cable is proprietary, which means you will not be able to use PC cables directly without it.
If any of these items are missing, you might want to consider purchasing it new. As you would then gain the accessory, as well as the manufacturer’s warranty. Here’s a link to where I usually purchase from:

Besides the flash, you might want to invest in a long PC cable, which would allow you more creative freedom for where you want to place the flash. What You Need To Know About Photo Paper
When buying photo paper, there are a lot of factors that you have to look through. The variety and quality available can be quite confusing in making your choice on the apt photo paper. Some factors that you have to consider include opacity, paper weight, type of finish and calliper of the paper. When going for photo paper, it is essential that the paper is if a high opacity level so that the ink does not bleed to the other side. When bleeding occurs, the image gets distorted. This is of even greater concern when you are going for double side printing.
When printing photos, go for paper that has a higher weight rating. Weight of the paper is measured in grams per square metre (GSM). The higher the weight, the denser the paper and this reflects in the surface of the paper. Selecting paper that has a GSM value of around 90 and above means that you get paper with a better finish. Another technical aspect of the paper that you should look into is the caliper of the paper. Caliper refers to the thickness of the paper which is essential for high quality printing. Thicker paper gives it better retention capability offering quality images. Finally, you will have to choose between Glossy or matte finish paper. Glossy paper offers the shine of photographic prints whereas matte gives the image a softer feel. Photo paper is available in a variety of gloss finishes and matte finishes to suit your requirements.

Having owned a Canon for two years now and chosen that on its superior merits at the time, I suspect the Canon is the better buy. Combine that with the reviews to hand, I think you cannot do better if this is your shortlist. I am thinking of buying a digital SLR to replace my Canon but suggest you wait till early January as I really think prices will tumble then … good luck with your choice …

Which lens is better?
I have a Pentax K2000 and is debating on which zoom lens to to get:
- Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens
- Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM IF Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras
There is a huge price between the 2, but seen good reviews for both lenses.

Thank you with all the replies. After reading several online reviews, I’ve decided to give Sigma a try because Tamron tend to have major distortion when shooting in wide angle ( I shoot buildings a lot). However, Sigma might not be the sharpest lens either. So, I’ll see how I like it once I got it in mail.
Since Pentax does not make a lens yet in that focal length range, you will have to actually do some tests of your own using both lenses.
One will ultimately feel better to you in its operation … buy it.

Is the “0′ ISO setting on traditional 35mm film camera (not digital) automatic?
If I set the ISO setting on 35mm camera to 0 is that an automatic setting for the film speed? I am using an old Pentax SLR film camera (not digital).
There is no “0″ or zero ISO on any film or camera. Zero would mean that the film is NOT sensitive to light at all. My guess is you are looking at the EV adjustment feature on your camera. This can “fool” the camera so you can push or pull the film under different conditions. It usually can be adjusted from -2 to +2, 0 being the middle or null point
In the past the “slowest film speed was 25 ASA. Most DSLR’s lowest ISO setting is 100 or 200.
Most of the more modern SLR cameras use an auto-indexing method used by the camera to determine the ISO of any film placed in the camera. That is the DX indexing code printed on each roll of film.

Final question before I order my Pentax K-x

I can order it as a set with 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses or with 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses. I am not quite sure how to judge the difference between 50-200 and 55-300. I am presuming that the latter can zoom farther, but I really don’t know in visual terms what the difference would look like. The 55-300 is more money so I want to know if there’s an appreciable difference. I will be using my camera mostly for travel photography. Can anyone help explain to me how to decide? Answers are very appreciated!
