Do ebooks cost money on an ereader/nook?
Hi people! I am wondering if it costs money to buy books for a nook or an pandigital ereader because i was thinking about getting one because i love reading! And is it possible to get free books? And would you recommend this basing on quality? And which brand has the most reasonable pricing, durability, and quality? Can you be as specific as possible? Thanks! Love u Guys!!!!
While there are tons of eBooks that are available for purchase, starting as low as $.99, there are also tons of eBooks that are available free, and not just public domain. Many writers will make their first book or the first in a series free, because they want readers to get hooked and buy more from them. You can find the free books at a number of websites, in addition to the obvious ones like Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

I want to get my Mom a device to transfer all of her old pictures to digital images.

Well, my brother recently closed his clothing store. He gave lots of clothes, shoes, and accessories away, however there’s still a lot left. His wife wants to have a garage sale. I advised they probably shouldn’t sit out a bunch of brand new merchandise in their front yard because it may bring too much attention to their house making them a target for burglary. They don’t have much, however you can’t tell by the stuff the’ll sell. A burgular may think they have money and try to break in their house one day. What do you think?

I never bought a Brother printer, since I always thought that the cheapest rival. I decided to try the units listed above after a Lexmark and HP refuses to work with Mac OSX. In Brother works perfectly and is a great machine. Lexmark take my computer for more than three hours trying to get a scan function to work and tell you that the scanner will not work if your machine is connected locally via a USB cable. HP has not given any new drivers for the scanner and does not plan to release.

How to fix “Looking for printer…” error
I had an HP LaserJet 3030 all-in-one laser printer for five years. HP discontinued the scanner driver for the Macintosh Snow Leopard operating system so I decided to not buy another HP. I read Consumer Reports and they recommended the Brother MFC-7840W. Then I saw that Brother’s top-of-the-line MFC-8890DW only costs a little more. The toner cartridge is bigger and it prints on both sides of the paper so you save money on supplies. It’s easy to set up on a wi-fi network, enabling every computer in my office to print without cables. Scanned documents look identical to the originals, with fine detail.
We have one problem a couple times. If your printer controller says “Looking for printer…” forever, here’s what to do.
First, cycle power on the printer. Then use the menu to check if it’s connected to your network. I use the wi-fi feature so I press Menu, 7. Network, 2. WLAN, 5. WLAN Status, and then 1. Status and 2. Strength. These should say Active and Strong signal.
Then delete and re-install the printer driver. On a Macintosh, open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Find “Brother MFC-8890DW” in the list of printers. Using the + and – at the bottom right corner of the printer list, delete the Brother driver. Now click the + and you should see Brother MFC-8890DW in the list of connected printers. Click and add.
Your printer should now work.
I’m giving the printer 4 stars only because these instructions should have been in the manual.

I have never owned a Brother printer. I do photos on Epson’s and always had HP lasers and 2 4 in one Office Lasers. This may be more about how crappy my last HP was and how it never was usable with Vista though I bought it AFTER Vista came out. Then I got a contact HP support for upgrade message which was unfixable…I could have called Obama at the White House easier than HP.
Anyway, being so frustrated I went for this puppy on Amazon.
I am so, so impressed. I set up wireless printing from my laptop in no time just following the instructions and software. My Vista’s are working great, seamless as are my XP’s. I just need a wire to it and my hard line network and the entire place will be printing faxing and scanning.
Scanning was great though easier through Photoshop CS4 I felt. But it was going there anyway as it was an immage. A document scanned easily and went to PDF with no hitches anymore….
HP…I am done with you folks….this machine kicked yours out the door and into the recyclers….

Ok this story, I have 3 different computers (XP, Vista and Windows 7) and I have a modem and a router Wireless at the same time I have the printer and the citizens and the Brother MFC-8890DW, Brother wireless printer capability but I f the printer directly connected to Windows computers 7th other computers (Vista, XP) and connected to its wireless brother, the question as I can on Vista and XP printer Citizen occur by the way this was any Day, until we have a business continuity. The Brother MFC-8840D is a version of the MFC-8840 that is upgraded to include automatic duplexing, a feature absolutely key if your demands require frequent double sided printing. There is also a third variation of the product available, the Brother MFC-8840DN, which also includes networking capabilities. The interesting thing about the MFC-8840D and DN is, they both include a 50 sheet input capacity fold down multi purpose tray, whereas the base model does not. Why Brother chose to restrict this feature to the upgraded models is a mystery, but either way, it succeeds as an incentive to shell out the extra cash and go with one of the duplex capable versions of the line.
A multi purpose tray accepts not only standard legal and letter sized paper, but also oddly shaped printables, such as custom letterhead, and odd thicknesses such as you would find when dealing with envelopes and card stock. While many printers require non standard media to be hand fed one at a time, the MFC-8840D can hold up to fifty, depending on the thickness. This, combined with the stock paper tray with a capacity to hold 250 sheets of standard paper, bring the unit’s total paper input capacity to 300, with an option to purchase and attach an additional 250 sheet capacity tray to the bottom of the unit.
Print speeds are relatively speedy, clocking in a 21 pages a minute for copies, faxes, or standard prints. Outgoing and incoming faxes are fast as well thanks to the built in 33.6 K per second modemwhich can send and receive pages of data at a rate of one every two seconds. Quality is good on both accounts as well, with a 2400 X 600 (HQ1200) dot per inch print resolution. Compatibility is top notch, as the MFC-8840D comes with BR-Script 3 drivers for PostScript 3 emulation and PCL 6 for the die hard business you occasionally find that chooses to use DOS. Furthermore, Parallel and USBports allow integration with both Mac and PC, running on Windows, Mac OS, and, of course, DOS operating systems.
One feature that is always nice to see on a printer is a nice huge, five line, multicolor, backlit LCD display, which allows you to scroll through menus and navigate options without the all too common frustrations often involved with tiny, hard to read screens.
Flatbed design on a scanner is another great help when hoping to minimize employee rage, as the large top door opens easily to reveal a legal sized document glass that anyone can understand. The scanner also implements “scan to” features that allow the user to activate scanning directly from the printer, and forward the data in the format of his or her choosing.
The Brother MFC-8840D is another in a long line of solid performing multifunctional centers from the brand, and is a reasonable option in a trilogy of great printers. The duplex feature may cost a little extra, but it also includes the MFT which could be considered as a nice bonus gift just in time for the printer’s release on Brother’s fiftieth anniversary, in 2004.

Anyone ever use a NeatReceipts business card scanner? How well does it work?
I’m thinking of buying one, but I don’t want to plunk down $200 for an annoying piece of junk that doesn’t work half the time. The salesman says it works great but you know how that goes….
They work great……unless you need to scan full color cards or cards with a high gloss. I had one but sent it back because it wouldn’t pick up anything off of high gloss or full color. But if all you ever plan on scanning is plain ole white cards without many graphics on it, it would work great.
