The Brother XL2600i sewing machine is super simple to use and includes enough decorative stitches to work for basic mending, light quilting, and some craft sewing. Priced at under $100 and weighing only 11 pounds, this is an ideal sewing machine for anyone who wants something they can move easily or pull out as needed and store away quickly.
This is also a great sewing machine for kids as it includes enough variety to keep them interested and is more sturdy and long-lasting than the smaller machines made specifically for children.
Brother XL2600i Stitch Pattern
The number of stitches that come with any sewing machine often define its limitations in terms of creativity and crafting. This machine comes with 25 built-in stitches and one of the best combinations of stitch types (utility, decorative, and heirloom) in this price range.
Stitch patterns include a one-step buttonhole, straight, zigzag, blind hem, 2 stretch stitches for working with jersey and knits, shell tuck, elastic shell tuck, double action, bridging, and a number of decorative stitches.
Brother XL2600i Presser Feet
Five different presser feet come with the Brother XL2600i. Presser feet hold your fabric in place while you sew. A general presser foot is used for most projects but sometimes you need fabric to move in a certain direction to accomplish a specific task, like making buttonholes.
That’s where the additional presser feet come in handy. They make these unique jobs easier to accomplish. This machine uses snap-on style presser feet: Buttonhole, Zipper, Button Sewing, Narrow Hemmer, and a Blind Stitch presser foot.
Brother XL2600i Sewing Machine Features
The selection dial and reverse lever are large and easy to use – another reason this is one of the best sewing machines for kids. It can also handle both lightweight and heavier fabrics.
Machine set up has been designed to be as uncomplicated as possible. There’s an automatic needle threader, a drop-in bobbin system, adjustable stitch width and length dials, and good sized reverse button and a built-in thread cutter on the side of the machine.
This machine is capable of twin needle sewing and unlike even pricier machines, it actually comes with the twin needle accessory. On more expensive machines it’s common to have to purchase that separately.
Free arm sewing is possible by removing the cover plate so that sleeves and pant legs can be slipped under the needle easily.
A light over the work space makes it easier to see as you sew and a built-in carry handle allows you to easily move the machine around. A number of accessories are included such as extra bobbins, needles, a screwdriver and darning plate. The Brother XL2600i sewing machine stands out as an excellent choice for a lightweight machine with great stitch variety and automated setup.
