Pentax DA 50-200mm lens. Is it good?
I have an *ist dl and I’m looking for a good zoom lens. This one is only $250 and I think there’s a mail in rebate. I know pentax makes really nice lenses. I just want to know what other people think of it and if there might be a better alternative. I’m not a pro photographer, I’m a student and I do it mostly as a hobby, so I don’t have much money to spend.
A zoom lens is a trade off. You gain convenience, but you lose some photographic quality. The best I can say is that unless you are a professional photographer and trying to market your pictures, GO FOR IT!
Pentax has been incredible since long before I had my first one in 1967. If I had a “druther,” I druther have Pentax lenses than Tamron or Sigma. I can’t speak too much for Sigma, the ones that I have used have not impressed me. Tamron used to be pure junk, but they have improved a lot. Cheaper zooms are more likely to wobble sooner (that is the front of the lens might wobble after a while) and worse, they don’t hold their position in the zoom, they can slide easily back and forth. This does not happen immediately, it happens with age and use. I do have one lesser brand zoom that actually has a zoom lock on it and I like that.
If you want two zooms that will do most of your work, go with a 28-75 (or somewhere close) and a 75 (or 70) – 150.
Probably y ou can buy those lenses used, even the 50-200 from www.KEH.com and if you get the EX, EX+, you can’t go wrong. I have been buying from them for eons and the worst thing I can say about them is that they have also given me more than what I expected to get.

pentax k-7, Canon 50d, or nikon d300?
Can’t decide which one is a better buy. I use nikon’s at work, my friend who’s a pro photographer swears by canon, the lenses are much cheaper for a pentax because of the image stabilizing is built into body. All seem to get good reviews and good values for the money.
ps to be honest i would just like it if my canon ae-1 would turn digital. 5 buttons amazing photos, but i think ill love going the dslr route

Yet I was wondering if saving up for the Canon EOS 550D would be worth the effort/wait?
I am looking for a long term camera so I will either get a low end one to fill in for now or would it be more worth while to save up for an expensive one? Getting a mid-range cam seems kind of pointless to me but I would love an opinion if around £600 can get great quality image/video….

I’m rambling… thanks for any answers.
Any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I’d pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy.
The most important part is to buy only the best lenses – camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don’t rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you’ll need/want.
The more time you’ll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.
If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and “picking their brain” about their camera and whatever else they know.
Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.
Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.
Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn’t cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.
You’ll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.
That’s just the small stuff – I can guarantee you that you’ll also want more and more lenses.
You’ll also want a decent flash some day.
See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn’t cheap – at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

Ok well at Teds i can get the Pentax K100D Super with a lens kit, 1 for 650…thats with a sigma 18-50mm lense.

yeah fhotoace thats the only thing that may put me off buying the pentax..it dont have Li-ion batteries, against the nikon d40 which is roughly the same price, that does which is kind off sending me on the Nikon route.
Spend the $50, it will be the best investment you make with this purchase.
The only problem with the K100D Super is that it does not use Li-ion batteries and that is a shame. The only Pentax models that do are the K10D and K20D (or Samsung GX10 and GX20).
Li-ion batteries hold their charges longer and can last up to five years before they have to be replaced.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A380
With the Alpha DSLR-A380, dell vostro 1510 battery and Sony takes a lot of the complaints users have about digital DSLRs—and Sony cameras in general—and tries to offer compelling reasons for them to jump on its bandwagon. This compact camera is smaller and easier to use than newbies might expect a DSLR to be while still offering excellent colors and backlight correction. It even accepts SD Cards, which is a relatively new trick for Sony cameras. Before you buy this $699 camera, though, consider that similarly priced or even less expensive DSLRs offer HD movie recording, while others offer speeds better suited for shooting fast-moving subjects.
Design
The 1.6-pound A380 (5.0 x 3.8 x 2.8 inches)dell vostro 1310 battery is similar in size to the Nikon D3000 (5.0 x 3.8 x 2.5 inches), but weighs 0.2 ounces less. And while it’s a bit heavier than the Canon EOS Rebel T1i, the A380′s dense, more substantial feel may appeal to enthusiasts.
On top of the A380 is a mode dial, along with a switch for moving between Live View mode and the optical viewfinder. On the back of the camera and next to the 2.7-inch (230,400-pixel) LCD Sony VGP-BPS13/Q Battery are function, exposure, delete, playback, and menu buttons, along with a five-way navigational pad. We love the LCD’s built-in accelerometer, which quickly re-orients photos and menus as you rotate the camera in your hand. All in all, the layout of buttons looks more streamlined than the Canon T1i.
Like the Nikon D5000, the A380 has an articulating LCD, meaning you can pop it out and rotate it 135 degrees upward or 55 degrees downward (the D5000′s most oblique angle is 170 degrees). Sony VGP-BPS13/B Battery comes in handy when you’re shooting at tricky angles, such as holding the camera above you. Of course, this means shooting in Live View mode—something we don’t recommend unless you find yourself in such as a situation where using the viewfinder is impossible. As you’d expect, the camera is slow to focus in Live View mode, and its shot-to-shot speeds drag.
Two more notes about the A380′s design: one, it has HDMI output, Dell C1295 Battery would be more useful if the camera shot HD video. Secondly, whereas Sony cameras used to accept only Memory Stick storage, the A380 has two slots—one for Memory Stick Cards and another for SD Cards. When you open the slot that covers these cards, you’ll see a switch that instructs the camera which one to read.
User Interface
The A380′s beginner-friendly user interface has illustrations that help novices understand how their changes to the settings will affect the photo quality. For instance, the shutter speed is shown on a spectrum, with an icon of a stationary person at one end and a moving subject at the other. For depth of field, there’s a blurred icon at one end of the spectrum, and a sharp, clear icon at the other. The only other feature we’d like to see Sony add is a navigational dial, so Dell FK890 Battery users could adjust settings such as aperture in manual mode on the fly.
Image Quality
In several ways, the $699 A380′s image quality is comparable to the $799 Canon EOS Rebel T1i’s captures. Like the T1i, its colors are accurate, but more saturated than photos we’ve seen from such Nikon cameras as the D3000 or D5000. In Macro shots, its nine-point Autofocusing sensor captures lots of fine detail in the foreground, while softly blurring what’s in the background.Dell GD761 Battery
The A380 holds its own when it comes to harshly lit situations. The camera did a good job of bringing out shadow details without overexposing the background. As mentioned above, however, you don’t get HD movie recording, something even the $599 Pentax K-x offers.
Speed and Battery Life
Our photos of moving subjects were less sharp on the A380 than similar shots captured with the T1i and D3000. That could be because this DSLR shoots at 2.5 frames per second, while the T1i shoots up to 3.4 fps and the Nikon D5000 up to 4.0 fps. While its brisk shot-to-shot speeds feel typical, the Nikon D3000 and D5000 have faster startup times. On top of Dell GK479 Battery, the A380 operates noisily.
The A380′s rechargeable lithium ion battery is rated for up to 500 shots. Like the Nikon D3000 and Canon T1i, it lasted through a few busy days at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, where we were taking lots of photos with the flash on.
Verdict
The $699 Sony Alpha DSLR-A380 is an intuitive, inexpensive DSLR that also happens to take good photos. However, other similarly priced cameras (such as the $599 Pentax K-x) can shoot HD video and are generally faster. Don’t want to shoot video? The Nikon D3000 ($549) is an even better deal. When it comes to ease of use, however, the A380 and Dell KD476 Battery leads the pack.

I have my camera on ready to take a picture and am pressing every button on my Jue Ying remote and nothing is happening. Do I need to point it at a certain angle at a certain spot? Do i need some different setup ?
I ordered 2 remotes and none of them works, though their site says it works wit EOS 400D
The IR receiver is on the forward grip of the camera (dark oval “window” below the shutter release button). The remote must be pointed at the front, not the back, of the camera for it to work properly. Also make sure that the included button battery is installed correctly.
You also need to turn the receiver on. You can do this by pressing the “Drive Mode” button between the AV and ISO/Up buttons. Select the last option, “Timer/Remote control”.

Does anyone use DSLR Pentax K body with M42 adaptor to mount old SLR Pentax and Praktica screw lenses (M42)?

In fact I have some different SLR Praktica and ZENITH lenses (Pentax M42 screw Mount) and looking for a new DSLR. I was interesting in Nikon D90,D5000 and Canon 500D Rebel T1I with a 18-200mm .But i was told that most of Pentax DSLR accept M42 adaptor without problems of focusing to infinity cause old SLR Pentax had made M42 mount lenses.But im wondering if there is a problem with auto-manual lenses that contain movable small pin for wide open focussing and weather if it can affect on light metering ability?.Also im wodering if all Pentax DSLR K bodies accept M42 adaptors and which one is better than others?

To stress, get the adaptor that gets flushed (level) to the camera mount. If a flange stays outside or above the camera mount, focusing to infinity will not work.
To add, some K-mount lenses have the Ricoh pin that can get the lens stuck. Search on that more on the net and how to solve the problem.
Metering works whatever kind of lens. You will be using the lens as if it were on the film SLR body. Also, with the newer bodies, you will get focus assist.
If you can afford to get the body with the kit lens, do so. The Pentax 18-55mm is an exceptionally great kit lens. It’s a steal at such a low price.
You are wrong. It is the other way around. The dSLR deserves better glass so use the older lenses.
